Mercyhurst University along with the Senior Class of 2020 is working to creating an endowed scholarship in name of Mike Folga, longtime Mercyhurst employee who passed away in August 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Folga, or Folgs as he was affectionately called, served for over 20 years as equipment manager and athletic trainer for the Mercyhurst hockey programs. Folgs was a 1986 Mercyhurst graduate, and prior to returning to work for his alma mater he enjoyed a lengthy stint in professional hockey. Folgs was part of the 1994 Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers as the equipment manager, and was loved at every stop along the way.
The scholarship endowment will be used to create an annual award that will benefit a student who actively supports Mercyhurst but encounters a major setback that could jeopardize his or her education plans (i.e. illness, accident, family or financial problem).
