What is Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding at Mercyhurst University is just as it sounds - a crowd sourced fundraising campaign to help our students! The Office of University Advancement works closely with academic departments, athletic programs, and more to find our needs around the campus and works to craft a solution suitable for crowdfunding! All contributions made via the crowdfunding campaigns go directly to the individual projects - there are no fees, commissions, or other charges. Unlike Kickstarter, gifts made via crowdfunding will be given to these respective programs regardless of whether the project hits their published goal.

All contributions are tax-deductible, though some projects have reward items whose fair market value must be deducted due to IRS regulations. The Office of University Advancement will advise when this becomes a factor.

Once a donor makes a gift in support of a particular project, we will keep in contact via email, snail mail, and social media to keep you in the loop as to the project's fundraising progress and will let you know when the project comes to fruition.
